What makes your soul happy?
What makes my soul happy is the high I experience from serving others . Feeding the homeless, teaching meditation and yoga, spreading inspiration, love and light as much as possible. Seeing my daughter smile and be happy, gardening with my mother, laughing and cooking with Bae, meditating, yoga, my relationship with God, watching others serve, inspire and spread love. And of course the beach!
What’s your proudest mommie moment?
My proudest mama moment…ooh there are a lot but most recently driving through downtown San Diego with my daughter on our way to Volunteer with The Brunch Club. It was Desiree’s first time joining me. We were at a stop sign and she watched this little girl who must have been about 2 years old. She was in a diaper, beautiful however filthy, malnourished etc… She was dancing around in a cardboard box laughing like she had no care in the world. She exuded a peace within. On the right of her box was a man shooting dope into his arm and on the left was a woman smoking crack. Behind them and all along the street were tents of other homeless people and families. She started crying ( which of course made me tear up) and asking me why the world is filled with so many people that don’t care. How can there be so much wealth in this world and so much cruelty and poverty at the same time? We spent the next 4 hours writing inspirational love notes, making bags of food and other essentials and walked through the streets handing out bags and talking to our brothers and sisters, giving hugs and spreading light, compassion, love and empathy. Afterwards we went to brunch and bonded over how amazing it felt to see the look in people’s eyes when they felt LOVED? She has the most amazing heart I have ever experienced ?
Where is your favorite place to spend time with your family?
My favorite place to spend time with family is the beach, hiking or at home cooking, being goofing with one another, playing games, laughing ALOT and eating a great meal together.
What are your strengths/weaknesses as a mother?
My strength as a mother is being an encourager , a great listener, and a good example. My weakness I guess would be trying to save her from unnecessary pain. However I am more aware and accepting of the fact that this life is her journey not mine. I give her to God every day and trust more in my faith that she will be ok.
What’s in your purse?
To many things to list.. Wallet, hand sanitizer, Hurraw lip balm, pen, business cards, Chakra balancing aromatherapy roll on oil, keys, blotting tissue, and a mini journal where I record ideas and plans for making my dreams come true.
What advice would you give your 21 year old self?
I would give my 21 year old self the following advice… Pray more worry less, Always remember your past and your pain does not define you, it is your strength! Pursue your dreams now, and be the mother to your daughter that you needed when you were a child
What is your mantra?
I am love, I am strength, I am compassion, I am peace, I am a child of the most high and I was created to fulfill my purpose.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about pursuing my dreams, helping others, spreading love & compassion, Yoga, meditation, mentoring foster children, writing my book, and strengthening my bonds with my friends and family.
Do you belong to or donate your time to any charitable/philanthropic organizations and if so, which ones?
Currently I donate time to The Brunch Club feeding and connecting with the homeless once a month. I will be mentoring a foster child through the County of San Diego once they have completed all the background checks, which involves a minimum of 3 hours a week. I previously taught yoga and meditation at PATH Connections housing to people transitioning out of homelessness. If I had more time I would do more and one day I will. However I balance my selfless service while managing 2 medical practices , exercising and teaching yoga to a celebrity client.
Why you’re a QUINKENZO Fly Mommie…
Dana is pretty much the reason I curated this whole concept of Fly Mommies. For me, a woman who has a beautiful soul, depth, lives with conviction and purpose AND a great style sense is undeniably Fly. Who Dana is to the very core of her being is so incredibly fly to me. I’ve been blessed to be friends with her for a very long time and to see the woman she has become and what she represents is incredibly heartwarming and inspiring. She is fly because through all of life’s bumps and bruises she has continued to push herself to be the best version of herself. She never gave up on herself. She’s strong, courageous, intriguing, empowering, inspiring, funny, and beautiful inside and out. She’s vegan AND a yoga instructor…and she looks amazing in a bikini! Her realistic and calm approach to life transcends to her simple, relaxed, zen style sense that totally represents who she is. She’s fly and if you know her or ever get a chance to meet her, you will wholeheartedly agree.
